Brad Fischer, who guided Wisconsin-Oshkosh to back-to-back NCAA Division III Final Four appearances, has joined the Nebraska women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, Husker Head Coach Amy Williams announced on Monday, June 8.

Fischer, who spent the past 14 seasons building UW-Oshkosh into a national power, took the Titans to 11 NCAA Division III tournaments, including Final Four bids in 2025 and 2026.

Fischer was the NCAA D-III Central Region Coach of the Year by D3hoops.com in 2014, 2021 and 2025 and the WBCA Region Coach of the Year in 2019, while claiming six WIAC Coach-of-the-Year honors (2013, 2017, 2019, 2024, 2025, 2026).

"We are very excited to add Brad Fischer to the Husker women’s basketball family," Williams said. "Brad’s successful head coaching experience at the collegiate level and reputation as an outstanding recruiter and developer will be the perfect addition to our program. We are so happy to welcome Brad and his wife Lisa to Lincoln."

Fischer will fill a new assistant coaching position at Nebraska, joining the full set of Husker assistant coaches from a year ago, including Tandem Mays, Jessica Keller, Julian Assibey and Taylor Edwards, along with graduate assistant Marissa Kastanek.

The winningest head coach in UW-Oshkosh history, Fischer concluded his stint with the Titans by posting a 315-80 (.797) overall record. He led the Titans to 13 consecutive 20-win seasons, excluding the 2020-21 season that was abbreviated to just 11 total games (9-2) by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fischer's Titan teams averaged 23.5 wins per season, including a 28-4 campaign in 2026 that resulted in a second straight NCAA D-III Final Four appearance.

He led UW-Oshkosh to five WIAC regular-season titles (2019, 2021, 2024, 2025, 2026) and five more WIAC Tournament championships (2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020) during his successful career with the Titans.

Fischer began his coaching career at Western Wisconsin Technical College in 2000-01 while he was still a student at UW-La Crosse. He also served as a high school assistant coach at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School for two seasons from 2001 to 2003.

He spent three seasons (2003-04 to 2005-06) as an assistant at UW-La Crosse, before spending five years as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA Division II Wisconsin-Parkside. With 24 wins in 2010 and 23 victories in 2011, UW-Parkside produced the two best season win totals in school history with Fischer on staff.

After spending 2011-12 as UW-Parkside's Assistant Athletic Director for Communications, Fischer was named the head coach at UW-Oshkosh in 2012-13. He inherited a team that posted just seven wins in 2011-12 and had not had a winning record in six seasons, but quickly turned the Titans into a 20-6 team. The 13-game improvement in the win column helped him earn his first WIAC Coach-of-the-Year honors.

His 2013-14 team raised the bar higher, finishing with a 26-4 record that included a trip to the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament and a final No. 9 national ranking from D3hoops.com.

After a 23-7 record and a trip to the NCAA D-III Tournament second round in 2014-15, Fischer's 2015-16 Titan team posted a 23-6 record and a trip to the second round of the NCAA D-III Tournament for the third straight season.

His 2016-17 team then produced a 26-4 record and posted a 13-1 WIAC record to secure the school's first outright regular-season conference title since 1999.

Fischer's 2017-18 Titan team continued a string of 20-win campaigns by finishing with a 21-6 mark but missed the national tournament for the only time in his career, before the 2018-19 squad again put together a 26-4 season and advanced the NCAA D-III Tournament third round for the second time in six seasons.

The 2019-20 season came to a sudden end with COVID-19, but the Titans still put together a 20-10 campaign before the cancellation of the national tournament. COVID also drastically shortened the 2020-21 season, as UW-Oshkosh posted a 9-2 campaign to win the WIAC regular-season and postseason titles.

The 2021-22 season took the Titans to new heights, as Fischer led UW-Oshkosh to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time since 1999. The Titans finished 22-7 and No. 12 in the final D3hoops.com rankings.

UW-Oshkosh finished 20-9 and advanced to the NCAA Division III second round in 2022-23, before posting a 24-6 record and moving to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24.

In 2024-25, Fischer swept coach-of-the-year honors from D3hoops.com, the WIAC and the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association by leading the Titans to a 27-5 record and its first NCAA Final Four appearance since 1996.

Fischer earned his bachelor's degree (2002) and master's degree (2005) from UW-La Crosse.
