Western Nebraska sweeps past MCC Volleyball
SCOTTSBLUFF – The McCook Community College volleyball team dropped its second consecutive straight-set road match Saturday falling to Western Nebraska in Region IX play. The Cougars won 25-21, 25-20 and 25-23.
“We had a tough time coming in at clutch time,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. “We played decent but were lacking a few parts in the game.”
Sophomore Shana Muller (Gretz-Armainvilliers, France) led MCC with 10 kills. Sophomore Charlee Russick (Berthoud, Colo.) had eight and freshman Anna Richardson (Worland, Wyo.) had six.
Freshman Leia Young (Amarillo, Texas) was credited with six kills and sophomore Paulina Fister (Tuszyn, Poland) had five kills and five digs.
Freshman Libby Cole (Grant) led the Lady Indians with 13 assists, freshman Zoe Mulholland (Lander, Wyo.) added 11 and Landree McNair (freshman, Imperial) chipped in seven.
“We are usually a decent blocking team and just didn’t do that today,” said Kobza.
Western Nebraska improves to 4-1 in the Region IX South standings and 6-16 overall.
The Lady Indians fall to 3-2 in the Region IX South standings and 7-12 for the season. MCC has two-more road games in the region this week traveling to North Platte Wednesday to take on the Knights (7-12) at 6 p.m. North Platte is 1-3 in region play having split weekend matches winning against Otero and losing at Trinidad.
MCC will wrap up the week with a trip to Lincoln Saturday to play Southeast Community College (0-4, 5-22).
