State Fairtoberfest debuts at the 2025 Nebraska State Fair

Nebraska State Fair

The Nebraska State Fair is raising a stein to tradition with the debut of State Fairtoberfest, a vibrant new celebration of German and Czech heritage. Created in partnership with Kinkaider Brewing Company, the Liederkranz, and the Plattdeutsche, the event blends Old World charm with modern fair fun for an unforgettable cultural experience.

“Fairtoberfest is a can’t-miss fusion of history, heritage, and fun,” said Karli Schulz, Nebraska State Fair events and entertainment director. “It’s another way we’re adding excitement and activity to the Pump & Pantry Party Pit, while celebrating the cultures that helped shape Nebraska’s identity.”

Fairtoberfest schedule: Friday, August 29, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

Held in the Pump & Pantry Party Pit, Fairtoberfest features a full day of festive activities, music, food, and contests:

-Polka Music All Day: Live performances include Angie Kriz and the Polkatoons (1-3 p.m.) and the Polka Police (4-7 p.m.).
-Traditional Eats: Sausage and pretzels from local vendors bring authentic flavor to the celebration.
Bierhaus Biers: Enjoy a selection of Bierhaus favorites: Stag, Fox, Owl, Bear, plus a special Oktoberfest brew.
-Hammerschlagen: Test your hammer-and-nail skills throughout the day.
-Shotski Station: Join in the fun at the tent near the State Fair bar.
-Stein Stamina Contests: Men’s competitions at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m. & 6 p.m.; Women’s at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. & 5 p.m.
-Beer Relays: Teams compete at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. with keg rolling, limbo, sausage eating, hammerschlagen, and more.
-Photo Fun: Snap a selfie with life-size Lederhosen and Dirndl cutouts.

Designed for fairgoers of all ages, State Fairtoberfest is both a lively tribute to Nebraska’s German and Czech heritage and a brand-new way to enjoy the State Fair.

The 2025 Nebraska State Fair offers all fairgoers the chance to Showcase Your Fair Face, August 22 through September 1 at Fonner Park in Grand Island. The fair has drawn more than 4 million visitors to its home in Grand Island since 2010.
