Short Standoff Ends with Arrest in Ogallala

April 23, 2026 (Ogallala, Neb.)  — The Nebraska State Patrol SWAT Team has arrested a fugitive after a brief standoff in Ogallala.

Wednesday evening, NSP investigators received information that a subject with numerous active warrants was at a residence in Ogallala. Investigators attempted to contact the subject, but the subject barricaded himself in the residence.

The NSP SWAT Team was activated. After approximately two hours of attempting to communicate with the subject, an uninvolved person exited the house and confirmed that the suspect was still inside. Shortly thereafter, the subject, Rick Reeves, 56, exited the house voluntarily and was taken into custody.

Reeves had active warrants for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, habitual criminal, theft, flight to avoid arrest, possession of a controlled substance, burglary, and attempt of a Class IV Felony. He was lodged in Keith County Jail. The Ogallala Police Department assisted in this incident response.
