Plant Explosion Deemed an Accident, Based on Preliminary Investigation

DODGE COUNTY, NEBRASKA – At approximately 11:56 AM CST on July 29, 2025 the Fremont Rural Fire Department and multiple other agencies responded to a building fire/explosion at Horizon Biofuels, Inc. located at 950 S Union St., Fremont.
At the time of the fire/explosion Horizon Biofuels, Inc was operating as a bulk producer of wood pellets and wood animal bedding. The plant had extensive damage as a result.
A preliminary investigation indicates an accidental dust explosion occurred during the manufacturing process. Additional investigation efforts are currently impeded due to the instability of the structure.
The Agency offers its sincerest condolences to all those affected by this incident.
