Nebraska Legislature advances bill to undermine voter-approved paid sick leave

Nebraska-Appleseed

LINCOLN, NE – Today, the Nebraska Legislature advanced LB415, introduced by Senator Beau Ballard, to select file with an amendment (AM545) that exempts several groups of workers from earning paid sick leave.

The Paid Sick Leave for Nebraskans coalition issued the following statement:

“We are extremely disappointed by the Nebraska Legislature’s egregious disregard of the will of Nebraska voters.

Voters at the ballot box were very clear: Nearly 75% of Nebraskans understood the importance of providing earned paid sick leave to ALL Nebraskans, regardless of age, sector, workforce status, or business size.

LB415 and the actions taken so far by the Legislature fly in the face of the voters’ decision in 2024 by significantly rolling back the protections voters overwhelmingly approved throughout the state, with majority support in every legislative district.

We will continue to call upon our state senators to honor the clear will of its constituents by voting NO on LB415 moving forward.”
