NDOT Celebrates Winners of 2026 Name-a-Snowplow Contest

Nebraska Department of Transportation

Oct. 30, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.) — For the sixth consecutive year, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) hosted its Name-a-Snowplow contest, inviting K-6 students and classrooms statewide to submit their most creative and clever snowplow names. Winning names are displayed on NDOT snowplows and can be tracked in real time on Nebraska 511.

This year, NDOT received 2,460 entries representing 165 schools across 96 communities. Winners were selected from each of NDOT’s eight geographical districts. The 16 winners were recognized at celebrations held at their schools, where NDOT maintenance employees visited with students, shared information about snowplow operations and demonstrated how snowplows help keep Nebraska roads clear during winter weather. Students also had an opportunity to tour their newly named snowplow and ask questions.

In addition to each school visit, the student or classroom who submitted the winning name received commemorative Name-a-Snowplow miniature road signs for their home and school. Winners also received a book focused on STEM and transportation topics for themselves and their classroom.

The annual contest kicks off each fall and gives NDOT a fun and engaging way to partner with educators and students while teaching about snowplow operations, winter driving safety and Nebraska 511. The contest also helps raise awareness about the important work snowplow operators do to keep Nebraska roads clear during winter weather.
