Minden Opera House WELCOMES BROTHER/SISTER ARTS DUO
(Minden, Nebraska) The Minden Opera House is proud to feature an evening of art and entertainment with Amanda Brown (photographer) and her brother, Daniel Christian (singer-songwriter). Join us Friday, July 24th, for a free reception with light refreshments in the gallery at 5:00 p.m. followed by stories and songs in concert with Daniel Christian at 7:00 p.m. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy Amanda’s photography AND Daniel’s music in one special evening! Both events are free and open to the public. Free-will donations will be accepted at the concert.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHS:
Amanda Brown presents The Magpie Memoirs, a collection of photographs in our MOH gallery. For this exhibition, each image is accompanied by a brief journal fragment, inviting viewers to experience the photographs as pages torn from a well-worn travel book - intimate, reflective, and touched by time. Together they form a collection of small remembrances: light caught by accident, still water, empty streets, and the geometry of places we almost overlook; a feeling of having discovered something meant only for you.
ABOUT THE MUSIC:
Daniel Christian has shared his songs and stories across the nation for nearly 20 years, entertaining audiences at Bluebird Cafe (Nashville), Eddie’s Attic (Atlanta), Country Stampede (Manhattan KS), and the South By Southwest festival (Austin). He has opened shows for a diverse range of popular artists from The Fixx, to Selah, to Montgomery Gentry, and has released several albums, including projects with South Carolina label, Tremulant Records.

Originally constructed in 1891, the Opera House building housed three separate businesses on its first floor, each with street-level access until its renovation in 1997. The Kearney County Community Foundation acquired the building that year through generous bequests from the Estates of Vane and Alta Nied and Nels & Lucille Winther. Opting for a complete overhaul, the Foundation undertook a complete renovation, introducing a stunning stairway, Gift Shop, Art Gallery, and meeting rooms. The grand opening of the renovated Minden Opera House took place over Memorial Day weekend in 2000, celebrating its return to being a vibrant hub for the arts and events in South Central Nebraska.
