MCC Volleyball clips Lamar; start 4-0 in Region IX

“We started off pretty rough and we have to hold ourselves to a little higher standard and that is something we need to come in and be better tomorrow against Southeast,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. “We had a really strong week of practices so it’s a little disheartening that we didn’t come in and show that.”

After dropping the first set 25-20. MCC responded, winning 25-20, 25-20 and 25-19.

“We came out and won the last three sets and at the end of the day, a win’s a win, but we have to be a little better,” said Kobza.

Freshman Relebohile Phamotse (Maseru, Lesotho) led the McCoo attack with 24 kills, added 10 digs, one solo block and one assist block. The Lady Indians out-hit Lamar .252 to .177.

Jade Powell (freshman, Sterling, Colo.) had 14 kills, 11 digs, and two service aces. Sophomore Shana Muller (Gretz-Armainvilliers, France) was credited with seven kills

Sophomore Leia Young (Amarillo, Texas) had four kills, four digs, one solo block, one assist block. Bobbi Starkebaum (sophomore, Haxtun, Colo.) chipped in two kills, two block assist and three digs.

Freshman Paula Urizar (Guatemala City, Guatemala) led MCC with 19 digs.

Sophomore Zoe Mulholland (Lander, Wyo.) led MCC with 19 assists and three service aces as well as four digs. Freshman Cheyanne Ortiz (Pueblo, Colo.) had 18 assists.

Lamar falls to 0-3 in the region and 2-8 overall.

MCC goes to 11-10 and 4-0 in the region.

On Saturday, the Tribe plays a noon matinee against Southeast Community College (3-12, 0-3). Note, that time is different than the printed schedule. The Bobcats dropped a 3-1 decision Friday night in North Platte.
