MCC hosting 11 teams for weekend volleyball tournament

Eleven volleyball teams from Kansas, Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska and Texas will be in McCook starting Thursday for the McCook Community College Labor Day Weekend Tournament.

The tournament kicks off Thursday when MCC (0-3) hosts seventh ranked Indian Hills Community College at 6 p.m. in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

MCC opened the season at the North Platte Community College with losses to Casper College, Seward County Community College and Gillette College last weekend. The Warriors started the season 1-3 in the Weatherford, Texas Invitational with losses to No. 8 Missouri State West Plains (3-2), Frank Phillips (0-3) and No. 4 Weatherford (0-3) before beating No. 18 Dodge City (3-0).

MCC and North Platte are the only Nebraska teams in this year’s tournament. Other teams include Indian Hills and Iowa Western from Iowa, Seward County, Cloud County, Butler and Hutchinson from Kansas, North Central Texas and Amarillo from Texas and Lamar, Colo.

All three MCC gyms will be busy for Friday action which starts at noon with games starting at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday’s action starts at 9 a.m. with matches continuing at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Lady Indians will play twice Friday with a noon game against Hutchinson Community College (1-2) and a 6 p.m. match against Cloud County Community College (1-3). On Saturday MCC has just one match, 1 p.m. against Amarillo Community College (3-1).

2 p.m. – Iowa Western vs. Seward County (north court); Amarillo vs. Cloud County (south court); Lamar vs. Butler (auxiliary gym).

4 p.m. – North Platte vs. Iowa Western (north court); Hutchison CC vs. Amarillo (south court); North Central Texas vs Lamar (auxilary gym).

6 p.m. – McCook vs. Cloud County (south court); Butler vs. Indian Hills, (auxiliary gym).SATURDAY

9 a.m. – Lamar vs. Hutchison (south court); North Central Texas vs. Seward County (north court); Amarillo vs. Iowa Western (auxiliary gym).

11 a.m. – Indian Hills vs. Seward County (south court); North Platte vs. Butler (north court); Cloud County vs. Lamar (auxiliary gym).

1 p.m. – McCook vs. Amarillo (south court); North Central Texas vs. Butler (north court); Cloud County vs. Iowa Western (auxiliary gym).

3 p.m. – North Platte vs. Hutchinson (north court).
