After rain postponed Thursday play in the MCC Invitational at Heritage Hills, the McCook Community College golf team had their best showing of the season Friday with a second-place finish among eight teams.
“It’s always good to play well at our home event,” said MCC Coach Grant Case.
MCC shot a 297 and finished eight shots back of Eastern Wyoming and six shots ahead of third place Lamar.
“It’s the first time we’ve broken 300 this year so looking to carry that momentum forward for the rest of our fall season,” said Case. “Everyone made a few mistakes they wish they had back. “Without those we would’ve been right there at the top with Eastern Wyoming.”
MCC Freshman Freddie Wilson, (Basingstoke, England), shot a one-under par to finish in a third-place tie.
Sophomores Joackym Mahy (Andenne, Belgium) and Louis Yin (Tainan, Taiwan) both shot 75s on the day to finish in a tie for 11th place.
Trenton Raile (freshman, McCook) posted a four-over par 75 and finished in a tie for 14th place. Jeb Kastens (sophomore, Rawlins County High School, Kan.) shot a 77. Freshman Ignacio Heslop, (Buenos Aires, Argentina) carded an 80.
Sophomore Braiden Portie (Arvada, Colo.) and freshman William Clayton (West Malling, England) were both 10-over on the day with scores of 82. Manus Crichton-Coote (freshman, Bexhill-On-Sea, England) shot an 89.
MCC will be in Sterling, Colo. Oct. 1-2 at the Northeastern Junior College Tournament held at the Riveview Golf Club.
