MCC Baseball’s Home Finale Moved to Friday
Because of the weather forecast for Saturday, the final regular season home games for the MCC baseball team have been moved up a day, to Friday. The Indians’ doubleheader against Western Nebraska will start at 1 p.m. Friday at the Jaycees Sports Complex.
This doubleheader will conclude the split four-game series between the two teams which began Wednesday in Scottsbluff with the teams splitting the first two games with MCC winning the first game 12-3 and WNCC winning the second game 19-9.
MCC is tied for first place in the Region IX standings at 17-5, just a few percentage points behind Northeastern Junior College at 16-4. Both teams have also clinched two of the six post-season tournament slots which will be May 6-9 at Pueblo, Colo. The top two teams receive first-round byes in a double-elimination format. The Region IX tournament winner would then host the four-team Western District playoffs starting May 14.
Western Nebraska is 12-10 in the standings and 20-29 overall. The Cougars are tied for third place in the standings along with Southeast Community College (11-9).
The Indians are 20-5 at the Jaycees Sports Complex.
