Jensen Named to Top 10 List for Freshman of the Year
Nebraska softball freshman Alexis Jensen was tabbed a top 10 candidate for the NFCA Freshman of the Year, the organization announced on Thursday. The list was narrowed down from the original top 25, which was announced on April 23.
Jensen has been named the National Freshman of the Week by three separate organizations this year and has been the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week and the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. She was also named to the D1 Softball Clearwater Invitational All-Tournament Team.
The freshman from Gretna, Neb., is 21-2 in the circle with a 2.72 ERA. She has struck out 185 batters while allowing only 31 walks and ranks in the top 15 nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (fifth), strikeouts per seven innings (seventh), wins (ninth) and strikeouts (14th).
At the plate, she is batting .333 with six homers and four doubles, along with 17 RBI.
The top three finalists for the award will be announced on May 20 and the winner will be revealed on May 26.
