Huskers Shut Out Iowa on Senior Day

The No. 4 Nebraska softball team scored 13 runs on 10 hits and completed a sweep of the Iowa Hawkeyes with a 13-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium.

The Huskers improved to 40-6 on the season with a 20-1 mark in conference play. With the 20-1 Big Ten record, NU sits at the top of the conference standings.

Jordy Frahm and Samantha Bland each logged three RBIs for the Big Red, while Hannah Camenzind and Lauren Camenzind totaled two apiece. Bella Bacon added two hits and Jesse Farrell scored two runs. 

Frahm (15-4) also earned the win in the circle. She tossed the complete-game shutout with only three hits, along with six strikeouts.

The Huskers opened up the game with a six-run first inning. Frahm walked and Coor reached on a fielder’s choice, and the two went to second and third on a wild pitch. H. Camenzind singled to score the two. Farrell walked and Bland knocked a three-run homer before Bacon doubled and crossed the plate on an Iowa error. 

Farrell extended the lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the second with a solo shot to left field. 

Frahm knocked a three-run homer in the bottom of the third to give NU a 10-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Talia Tokheim singled and Katelyn Caneda was hit by a pitch, and an Alina Felix single scored Tokheim. Felix and Caneda went to second and third, respectively, on a wild pitch and the two scored on a L. Camenzind single.

The Huskers are set to head to State College, Pa., to take on Penn State in a three-game series. The first game on Friday, May 1, will start at 4 p.m. (CT)
