Husker Wrestling Overpowers Purdue, 36-3
The No. 6 Nebraska wrestling team opened Big Ten competition with a 36-3 victory over Purdue (7-2, 0-1 Big Ten) on Friday night at the Devaney Center. The Huskers recorded three major decisions and two pins to improve to 8-3 (1-0 Big Ten) on the season.
Nebraska set the tone early at 125, as Alan Koehler earned a 9-3 decision over Ashton Jackson.
At 133, No. 8 Jacob Van Dee followed with a dominant 13-2 major decision over Blake Boarman to give the Huskers a 7-0 lead. No. 3 Brock Hardy kept the momentum rolling at 141, securing his third pin of the season over Vincent Paino at 3:57, marking the 99th win of his Husker career.
No. 11 Chance Lamer extended Nebraska’s lead at 149 with a 12-2 major decision over No. 21 Gavin Brown, before No. 5 Antrell Taylor added the second pin of the night at 157, sticking No. 19 Stoney Buell in 2:51.
Purdue got on the board at 165, as No. 4 Joey Blaze earned a 8-2 decision over No. 8 LJ Araujo. Nebraska responded immediately at 174 where No. 6 Christopher Minto battled to an 11-8 decision over No. 16 Brody Baumann with a late takedown.
The Huskers closed out the dual with three consecutive wins. At 184, No. 9 Silas Allred picked up a 4-1 decision over No. 25 James Rowley, followed by a 7-1 decision from No. 12 Camden McDanel over No. 23 Ben Vanadia at 197 to push the score to 32-3.
In the heavyweight bout, No. 4 AJ Ferrari made his return to the lineup, recording an 11-2 major decision over Hayden Filipovich.
