Heavy Traffic Returns With Husker Gameday

Sept. 4, 2025 (Lincoln, Neb.) — Nebraska football returns to Memorial Stadium this Saturday evening, Sept. 6, with the season’s first home game. With fans traveling to Lincoln, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) reminds drivers to expect an increase in traffic in and around the Lincoln area.
Drivers will need to allow more time to get to their destination due to construction in the following areas:
On Interstate 80, west of Lincoln from the Pleasant Dale exit (Exit 388) to Exit 399 in Lincoln. Two lanes in each direction will be open but expect congested traffic and delays.
NW 84th St., which will be closed over the I-80; and
144th St. to L St. in Omaha, which has been reduced to two lanes.
NDOT also cautions game day drivers to watch for pedestrians and heavy traffic throughout the afternoon hours and as kickoff approaches.
NDOT reminds people to designate a sober driver or find a sober ride if their game day activities include drinking. Remember to buckle up before you leave and put the phone down. Before leaving to enjoy the game, set your route in the 511 app with your destination and place it on Tell Me for traffic updates.
For more information about construction projects and lane closures, check 511 Nebraska and the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) website, Facebook or X. For information regarding the football game, visit the Huskers’ website.
When Coming to the Game:
Drivers arriving in Lincoln on I-80 from the west should take Exit 397 (south U.S. Highway 77 (US-77) to Rosa Parks Way into downtown Lincoln.
Drivers arriving in Lincoln on I-80 from the east should take Exit 401 to south Interstate 180 (I-180) into downtown Lincoln.
When Leaving the Game:
Drivers should avoid Exit 409 between Lincoln and Waverly as it may be closed due to safety concerns as I-80 traffic builds. This may significantly increase traffic on U.S. Highway 6 and cause slowdowns. Leaving downtown Lincoln immediately after the game can put you in heavy traffic. Spending extra time in Lincoln immediately following the game will allow traffic to ease and help ensure a smoother ride home.
