Golden Eagles post 75-62 win over MCC

MCC Basketball Mens
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College men posted their second win to start the season taking down McCook Community College Tuesday night 75-62.

“I was proud of the way our guys battled, but at the end of the day we had two stretches where we didn’t execute that absolutely killed us,” said MCC Coach Taylor Shaffer. “We had one in the first half where we had three turnovers in a row that led to layups/dunks and one in the second half where we miss three layups in a row that led to layups and dunks.”

The Golden Eagles led at halftime 37-30 and outscored MCC 38-32 in the second half, which magnified the three possession stretches in each half.

MCC had a better start Tuesday than their previous games and shot 40.7 in the first half, but fell off to 25.8 percent over the final 20 minutes to finish shooting 32.8 percent for the game and just three-for-10 from the 3-point line.

“This was another night where we didn’t shoot it well and defensive transition absolutely killed us,” said Shaffer.

LCCC shot 45.6 percent from the field and made five of 22 shots from the 3-point line (22.7 percent).

The Indians did hold a 13-point advantage for the free-throw line making 21 of 29 attempts including 15 of 19 in the second half to finish at 72.4 percent for the game. The Golden Eagles made eight 12 free throws (66.7 percent) and held a slight rebound edge, 42-38. Both teams had 13 turnovers.

Sophomore Josue Kangudi (Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo) led the Indians with 17 points and eight rebounds. Isayah Pankey sophomore (Dallas, Texas) scored 15 points and distributed six assists.

Adrijus Janciauskas sophomore (Marijampole, Lithuania) added 11 points and freshman Daniel Christou (Perth, Australia) chipped in eight points with six rebounds.

LCCC improves to 2-0. MCC falls to 0-3 and continue a six-straight road-games stretch Saturday in Torrington, Wyo. where they face Eastern Wyoming.
