Frahm Earns Program Record in Huskers’ 4-1 Win Over No. 7 Bruins

The Nebraska softball team downed the No. 7 UCLA Bruins, 4-1, on Friday night at Bowlin Stadium and Jordy Frahm now owns NU’s single-season saves record with eight so far this year.

Frahm broke the record that was previously set by current head coach Rhonda Revelle in 1983.

With the win, the Big Red improved to 25-5 on the season and 7-0 in the Big Ten. UCLA fell to 28-4 and 9-1 in the Big Ten.

Hannah Camenzind led the Husker offense with three RBIs and a home run. She also drew two walks. Kacie Hoffmann added an RBI, while Hannah Coor contributed two hits.

Alexis Jensen (12-2) grabbed the win in the circle after tossing five innings with one run and four hits. She struck out six and walked one. Frahm earned her record-breaking save after pitching a scoreless, hitless final two innings.

UCLA opened up the scoring on an RBI single in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Frahm was hit by a pitch and H. Camenzind knocked a two-run home run to give NU a 2-1 lead.

The Big Red added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Coor doubled and scored on a Hoffmann single. Caneda, who pinch ran for Hoffmann, went to second on a Lauren Camenzind single and third on a Frahm walk. H. Camenzind walked to send Caneda across the plate and extend NU’s advantage to 4-1.

The Husker defense retired three straight in the top of the seventh to close out the victory.

Nebraska will take on the No. 7 Bruins again tomorrow, March 28, at 2 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
