Five Lady Indians Named All-Region In Softball


Five players from the record-setting McCook Community College softball team were named to the all-Region IX team by a vote of coaches. Sophomore Paige Warren was named Region IX Player of the Year.

Others honored included Hannah Schneider, Lyndsay Keogh, Brooklynn Gillen and Josie Wright.

Warren, the two-way player from Victoria, British Columbia, led all Region IX players and all players in the nation with 28 pitching wins. She led the league with a 1.84 ERA and had 178 strikeouts in 160 innings. Offensively, she hit .457 with 10 home runs, 50 RBIs, 33 total bases, and league-best totals in runs scored (84) and stolen bases (48). She ranked fourth in the nation in runs and was seventh in steals. She had an on-base average of .526 (fourth in the league).

Schneider, the lefty pitcher freshman from Alliance, Neb. who attended Scottsbluff High School, was named All-Region IX pitcher. She was second in the league with 16 pitching wins and a 2.11 ERA. In 93 innings, she struck out 82, which was fourth most in the league.

Keogh, the freshman from Surrey, British Columbia was named all Region IX infielder at first base. She led the league with 84 RBIs, a total that was fifth-most in the nation. She was third in the league with 144 total bases and third with 37 extra-base hits, batting .461 (third) with an on-base average of .518 (sixth) and she slugged .873 (fourth). She was tied for second with 21 doubles – one off the league lead.

Wright, freshman, Calgary, Alberta, was MCC's centerfielder and named all-Region outfielder. She hit .413 with and on-base average of .492 with three doubles, a league-best seven triples, four home runs and 39 stolen bases. She was top 10 in the league in batting average, on-base average as well as runs, hits, triples and steals.

Gillen was an honorable-mention infielder. The freshman shortstop from McCook, hit .305 with a .384 OBP with 13 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 14 stolen bases and 47 runs scored. She helped anchor the defense which led the league with a .956 fielding percentage.

These Lady Indians and their teammates won a program best 52 times this season and are headed to the NJCAA Division 1 College World Series May 25-30 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
