Fatal Crash on North Highway 83 Near Maywood

Maywood-According to the Nebraska State Patrol, troopers were notified of the crash at approximately 6:12 a.m. near mile marker 45.

Investigators said a Chevrolet Express van was traveling northbound on Highway 83 when it crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane. The vehicle then came over a hill and collided with a southbound Nebraska Department of Transportation pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Great Plains Health in North Platte with non-life-threatening injuries.

 The driver of the Chevrolet Express, identified as 41-year-old Trace Clapp of McCook, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Nebraska State Patrol said the crash remains under investigation.

The Frontier County Sheriff's Department, Red Willow County Sheriff's Department, Frontier County Attorney's Office, Nebraska Department of Transportation, Miller Towing, and the Maywood and Curtis fire departments assisted at the scene.
