Drivers Urged to Continue Planning Ahead, Follow Recommended Routes for Busy Husker Weekend
Sept. 10, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.) — As Nebraska football returns to Memorial Stadium Saturday, Sept. 12, for the first night game of the season, and the Nebraska Volleyball team hosts Georgia Tech, thousands of fans are expected in Lincoln. The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is reminding fans to plan ahead, allow extra time for travel, and to drive safely.
Drivers should continue to use the recommended routes shared ahead of last weekend’s game.
From Omaha (northeast):
I-80 to Exit 409 for Waverly/US-6 and follow US-6 west to Cornhusker Highway.
I-80 to Exit 405 to 56th Street.
I-80 to Exit 403 at 27th Street to Salt Creek Roadway.
If those exits are missed, drivers can take I-180 or continue on I-80 to the Lincoln Airport Exit 399 to NW 12th Street, which turns into Cornhusker Highway, to I-180 south into downtown Lincoln.
From US-34 West:
NW 48th Street south to I-80 or US-6. From NW 48th Street, travel east on US-6 into downtown. From I-80 at NW 48th Street, travel east to Exit 399 to take Cornhusker Highway east to I-180 south into downtown.
W Fletcher Avenue to NW 1st Street. Travel east on NW 1st Street, which turns into Superior Street, to I-180 south into downtown Lincoln.
Traffic that misses those recommended turns will be routed back to westbound I-80 at the 401 interchange to utilize Exit 399 or Exit 397.
Drivers are encouraged to use Nebraska 511 to plan their route on I-80 and other state highways and check for current traffic conditions and construction impacts. Once in Lincoln, use the WAZE navigation app for real-time traffic information and to navigate around local street closures and construction.
Increased traffic and pedestrian activity should be expected as kickoff approaches. Motorists should remain alert, follow posted signs and traffic control, watch for pedestrians and avoid distractions. Fans are also reminded to designate a sober driver or arrange for a sober ride if game day activities include drinking.
Out-of-town visitors should download the Nebraska 511 app or check 511.nebraska.gov to view real-time traffic updates, active work zones, live traffic camera feeds, and winter road conditions across state highways.
