Cornhusker State Games Shooting Sports Continue This Weekend in Grand Island


Grand Island, Neb. (July 13, 2026) — Following a successful opening weekend, the Cornhusker State Games Shooting Sports competition continues this weekend at the Heartland Public Shooting Park in Grand Island. Hundreds of athletes from across Nebraska will compete in one of the state's largest amateur sporting events.

Now in its second year at the Heartland Public Shooting Park, the Cornhusker State Games Shooting Sports have found a new home in Grand Island after relocating in 2025. The venue provides competitors with one of the Midwest's premier shooting sports facilities while continuing to establish Grand Island as a destination for regional and national shooting sports events.

Members of the media are invited to cover this weekend's events. Competition events include:

.22 Silhouette
Adult Trap & Skeet
High Power Rifle
Pistol
Plinking Pistol
Rim Fire Challenge
Sporting Clays
Youth Trap
Archery competitions are being held at Third City Archers in Grand Island.

"We're excited to welcome competitors and their families back for another weekend of Cornhusker State Games competition," said Brad Mellema, Executive Director of Grand Island Tourism. "The Heartland Public Shooting Park has proven to be an outstanding venue, and we're proud to showcase both the facility and the hospitality our community offers."

The shooting sports events attract approximately 750 participants annually, bringing athletes and their families from across Nebraska to Grand Island for competition and overnight stays.

The Cornhusker State Games is one of the nation's largest amateur multi-sport events, providing athletes of all ages and abilities the opportunity to compete while celebrating sportsmanship, fitness, and community.
