City of McCook Has Received Concerns Over Low Hanging Branches Over Streets, Alleys and Sidewalks.

The City of McCook has received concerns associated with low hanging branches over streets, alleys and sidewalks. The City of McCook would like to remind our citizens that City Ordinance subsection 96.20 in part requires that every owner of any tree overhanging any street or right-of-way within the city shall prune the branches, so that there shall be a clear space of 16 feet above the surface of the street and eight feet above the surface of the sidewalk. The owner shall remove all dead, diseased, or dangerous trees or broken or decayed limbs which constitute a menace to the safety of the public.
The City is also asking that residents please check the alleys adjacent to their property and remove any vegetation that extends beyond the edge of the alley.
If the property owner completes the work themselves and has a City of McCook trash account for that particular property, they can deliver the tree branches to the City of McCook tree pile located at the Transfer Station 1801 West Old Highway 6 & 34 for no additional fees. If the trimming is completed by an individual or company for hire, there will be a disposal fee charged. A copy of the ordinance can be found on the City’s website at www.cityofmccook.com.
We would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation.
