Senior Dylan Carey was one of 48 semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, awarded annually to the top college baseball player in the country in conjunction with the National College Baseball Writers Association.

The Dick Howser Trophy, presented by The Game Headwear, given in memory of the former Florida State All-America shortstop and major league player and manager, who died of brain cancer in 1987, is regarded as baseball’s most prestigious award. Criteria for consideration of the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage, qualities that were exemplified by Dick Howser’s life.

Carey is having a breakout 2026 senior campaign, batting .357 at the plate with 15 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 61 runs driven in and 49 runs scored. The senior shortstop is one of 23 players nationally to drive in more than 60 runs with 30-plus extra-base hits on the season.

The Castle Rock, Colo., native became the program’s all-time leader in career doubles earlier this season and has compiled 23 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI performances in 2026.

This is the 39th year of the Dick Howser Trophy. The finalists will be announced on Thursday, June 4. The 2026 award will be presented at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, the home of the College World Series for the 14th year. The winner will be unveiled on MLB Network on Friday, June 12.
