Attorney General Hilgers Launches Online Safety Guide for Parents

Nebraska AG Mike Hilgers Release

Today, following a landmark settlement with Meta, Attorney General Hilgers is launching a new publication to help parents keep their children safe online.

Parenting in the Digital Age is a comprehensive guide for parents covering topics like screen time, social media use, grooming, cyberbullying, and more. The guide also includes tools to help parents find hidden apps and photos on their child’s phone.

“Our office will not stop fighting the battle to protect children online in Nebraska. We are fighting to hold the entire big tech industry accountable. Nebraska Parents are trying to make good decisions for their children, but unfortunately, social media companies have misled them. We hope this guide is a valuable tool to support parents,” stated Attorney General Hilgers.

Starting tomorrow at the Nebraska State Fair, Nebraskans can pick up a free copy of Parenting in the Digital Age at the Nebraska Attorney General’s booth. The guide is also available online. If you would like to request a free printed copy, contact the Consumer Affairs Response Team at 402-471-2785.

The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is committed to protecting children online by holding companies and individuals accountable for deceiving Nebraska parents and harming children. Online child exploitation can be reported to FBI Omaha Field Office at  402-493-8688.
