April Traffic Fatality Toll
May 15, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.) — During the month of April 2026, eleven people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
These 11 fatalities occurred in 10 fatal crashes.
Three of the ten vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, five were using a seatbelt, and
two had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.
Nine of the fatalities were in rural locations*.
There were zero fatalities on the interstate, seven on other highways, and four on local roads.
One of the fatalities was a motorcyclist.

¨ There were 20 fatalities in April of 2025.
¨ Only 22 of the 56 vehicle occupants killed during 2026 were using seatbelts.
*The Federal Highway Administration definition for urban is an area with a population of 5,000 or more.
