32 Law Enforcement Agencies Selected for Summer Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign
Aug. 21, 2026 (Lincoln, Neb.) — The Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office (NDOT HSO) announced that 32 law enforcement agencies across the state have received grant funding for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" enforcement campaign, which runs from Aug. 21 through Sept. 7.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiative emphasizes the importance of sober driving and is backed by increased law enforcement presence on Nebraska roadways.
According to NDOT HSO data, law enforcement agencies recorded 8,047 arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) in Nebraska last year. Additionally, officers issued 192 DUI citations during the December "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" enforcement period. In 2025, alcohol-involved crashes accounted for 38 fatalities (16.5% of the state’s total) and 213 serious injuries (18.4% of the state’s total).
“As summer travel and activities wind down, law enforcement agencies across Nebraska will increase enforcement efforts to crack down on impaired driving over the next three weeks,” said Ryley Egger, NDOT HSO administrator. “The end of August and Labor Day weekend bring people together to close out summer with a trip and gatherings, which could include drinking. If you plan to drink, the best way to end summer is to get a sober ride home.”
Drivers who find themselves unfit to drive after drinking should hand their keys to a sober driver or use a rideshare service to get home safely. Friends are encouraged to step in proactively by taking keys away from anyone who has had too much to drink. To report a suspected impaired driver, call 911 or dial *55 for the Nebraska State Patrol.
