Frontier County 4-H Premier Communication Contest Held
There are three contests available through the Frontier County 4-H Premier Communication Contest. Prepared Speech, Radio Public Service Announcement (PSA) and Illustrated Presentation classes. Eight youth participated in the 2023 Frontier County 4-H Public Speaking contest held May 22, 2023, in Curtis, NE. KNOP-TV Assignment Editor/Reporter and Huskeradio “Mugs in the Morning” announcer Tristen Winder from North Platte, NE served as the judge for the evening. After the contest, Tristen shared how gaining communication skills will be helpful in the participants’ future careers. Mr. Winder also shared some of his communication career experiences with TV and radio. Youth ages 5-18 can participate in the 4-H Public Speaking program from county to state levels. Clover Kids (5-7 years of age) can give a noncompetitive poem or speech. 4-H members in Novice (8–9-year-olds who hadn’t given a speech as a Clover Kid or as a Junior), Junior (8-9 years of age), Intermediate (10-13 years of age) and Senior (14-18 years of age) are required to prepare an original speech about 4-H. Clover Kid Speech Division: Clover Kid Ribbon- Brody Jones titled “Ronaldo”
Novice Speech Division: Purple- Stetson Farr titled “The Little Plant”
Intermediate Speech Division: Purple- Darian Reich titled “Red Hair, Green Thumb”
Purple-AmaLeigh Utterback titled “Family Lessons”
Blue – Sofie Farr titled “Photography”
Senior Speech Division: Purple-Grace Brennemann titled “Thriving”
Purple – Ella Brennemann titled “I Love Cows”
Blue- Brianna Zysset titled “Technology in Agriculture”
The Frontier County 4-H Council provides cash awards to the top three in each class of the Clover Kid, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Divisions of the Premier Communication Contests. Those qualifying to compete in the State 4-H Premier Communication Contest (June 23, 2023) in Lincoln, NE are: Grace Brennemann, Ella Brennemann, Darian Reich and AmaLeigh Utterback. Through the 4-H public speaking, presentation, and PSA contests youth have an opportunity to write a speech, presentation, or PSA that incorporates the topic of 4-H and deliver it to an audience. These 4-H Contests help youth develop skills for communicating about current issues to real audiences, learn how to organize and prepare a speech/presentation/PSA, develop speech/presentation/PSA delivery skills, and learn how to present themselves to others while developing self-confidence.
