Huskers Drop First Game of DH; Game Two Suspended Until Sunday

The Nebraska softball team dropped game one of Saturday's doubleheader with Northwestern by a score of 8-1 before game two was suspended with Nebraska leading 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning.

Game two will be resumed at 11 a.m. on Sunday, weather permitting. The game will resume with Nebraska leading 5-0 with no outs and Northwestern runners on first and second base in the top of the fourth inning.

Game one was close early before Northwestern scored three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to pull away for the 8-1 win.

Emmerson Cope homered for the second straight game to account for Nebraska's lone run of the game. Ava Bredwell went 2-for-4 and was the only Husker with multiple hits as Nebraska was out-hit 9-5.

Cami Henry (4-2) tossed a complete game five-hitter for Northwestern, allowing only one run. Kaylin Kinney (16-14) also tossed a complete game for Nebraska.

Northwestern struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the third for the only runs scored in the game's first five innings.

The Wildcats then scored three more runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-0 lead.

Cope put Nebraska on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.

Northwestern then put the game away with three more runs in the top of the seventh.
